Resorts World Hudson Valley Joins Town of Newburgh to Top Out Long-Awaited Recreation Center at Chadwick Lake Park

Resorts World Hudson Valley officials joined Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio and community leaders to top out the long-anticipated recreation center at Chadwick Lake Park, which was made possible partially through funds paid under the facility’s Host Community Benefits Agreement.

“When Resorts World Hudson Valley opened its doors two years ago this month, our mission was to make an impact in Orange County and Newburgh far beyond the walls of our facility,” said Meghan Taylor, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Relations at Resorts World. “The entire team was pleased to see that promise become a reality today, as our direct investments in Newburgh will be felt for generations to come. We were honored to work with our partners in government and labor to finally build this recreation center.”

“The Town of Newburgh worked diligently with our partners in state and federal government as well as Resorts World Hudson Valley to deliver this recreation center today,” said Town of Newburgh Supervisor Gil Piaquadio. “We believed it was finally time to build this rec center and are proud to say today that when summer rolls around, it will certainly deliver for Newburgh residents. While we are topping out this building today, I know the sky is still the limit for our community.”

“Creating a recreation center at Chadwick Lake Park has been a goal for many years,” said Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “I’m grateful that Resorts World Hudson Valley and our elected officials are working together to finally make it happen. When completed, this project will be enjoyed by generations of Orange County residents and will be another example of why Orange County is one of the best counties in New York to live, work, and raise a family.”

The Town of Newburgh made construction of the $13 million recreation center possible through a series of grants from Sen. Schumer, Rep. Ryan, and State Sen. Skoufis, as well as funds from RWHV’s Host Community Benefit Agreement. RWHV made this pledge to Newburgh as part of its opening in Orange County, which reflects its community dedication throughout the state. In addition to investing in special projects like the Chadwick Lake Park Recreation Center, funds from the agreement also support the town’s emergency response departments.

Thursday’s topping out ceremony took a new twist on the construction rite, which normally sees officials sign a ceremonial beam that’s hoisted into the air. Because of the recreation center’s eco-friendly, prefabricated production, participants signed a modified piece of the building’s roof to keep with tradition. They were joined by leaders from local labor and Holt Construction – the same firm that executed the $50 million re-imagination of part of the Newburgh Mall into RWHV, which opened two years ago this month.

“Building a recreation center like this is fulfilling on its own, because we appreciate the enrichment this and the programs it will host will have for Orange County residents,” said Director of Business Development at Holt Construction, Dan Depew. “What makes this project so special is this is partially the product of our work to turn Resorts World Hudson Valley into a destination here. Holt Construction is honored to continue literally building this community.”
